Switch Off Loneliness

A Season of Loneliness – Part 3

Switch Off Loneliness

Turning on the “light” means getting a better, in most cases, a different point of view. Light illuminates everything it touches. Darkness, the opposite of light, brings misunderstanding and is the absence of clarity. Darkness produces fear, light produces freedom.

Any time your situation feels dark, you begin to feel lonely or fearful, you need to turn on the light. You do this by finding others who have overcome your situation. You do this by thinking on the positive outcomes more than the negative outcomes. You do this by getting into the source of light, God’s word, your Bible.

Normal people have an automatic affinity to the negative outcome in every situation. I often say, if the negative outcome is possible that means the positive outcome is equally and more possible. Think of it this way. If the devil has the power to make life difficult, how much more power do you think God has to make life better? Where darkness seems great, light is greater.

A Season of Loneliness - Part 3

Allow me to give some examples:
If you have fear of losing your job, try having faith to get a promotion or a better job.
If you fear you’re going to get a divorce, try having faith that the best days in your marriage are yet to come.
If others tell you you’re inadequate and won’t obtain your degree, let me be the first to remind you that you have what it takes to get your degree and much more.

When dark words like these show up, find some light to dispel the darkness. Light removes fear and loneliness.

The “light” says…
1. you can minimize the fear, doubt and loneliness
2. recognize that God is with you and you’ve never been alone
3. focus on others and less on self.

Minimize fear

With more information on the issues you face, fear becomes less and less. The more you know about others who overcome what you’re currently facing, the more you begin to believe you can. And when you believe you can, you’ll do what ordinary people don’t, start to overcome.

God is with you

Normal people ignore the fact that God is with us. We, the no-longer-common, have help. Unlike regular folk, we never again have to go through life helpless. We can ask for help from God. He is with you; it’s His name. Emmanuel, God is with us!

Focus on others

One of the best activities my wife and I participate in is praying for the various prayer requests at our local church. Why is this activity so great? It takes the focus off of our problems and place them on others. When we focus on others, our problems become smaller and smaller. Sometimes, they even disappear. Loneliness makes your issues, the only issues; thusly, they are always bigger than life itself. So, try focusing on someone else. I once told a family member, who seemed to always focus on her issues, to get a project. So we discussed and moved forward with her helping out in the children’s ministry at her church. By the way, she had no children, but being accountable to her church and the innocent children helped minimize her problems.

Now the answer to your loneliness isn’t the elimination of others from your life, but finding the right others to be in your life. To be uncommon is to lay your life down for someone else. And when you do, then you truly live like no one else.
