Setting and Remembering Goals

Have you waited for something to arrive for so long, only realizing later that you already have what you’ve been waiting for the whole time? Sometimes, we get too involved in the process of waiting that we forget about our initial goals. This makes us lose sight of what truly matters, hindering us from moving on.

week52b“When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said,[left John] and then followed Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, ‘We have found [what we’ve been looking for] the Messiah’.” – Apostle John

Look back and see what you initially set out to do.

When you applied for this job, what did you want to prove?

When you started taking up a hobby, what was your goal?

When you joined this church, what were you hoping to find?

Now look at where you are at the moment. Have you proven what you set out to prove? Have you achieved your goals? Have you found what you were looking for?

Waiting for something often gets us too absorbed with what we’re doing and we lose sight of the direction we’re taking. Things happen along the way that makes us change our direction often, sometimes clouding our beliefs of what we initially set out to do. This happens in church all the time.

What are we in church for? Most of us go to church to find God as if He were lost, and to understand what His true mission is for us. The church is one of the things that would help us find the right direction towards what we are truly meant to do. But it is still up to us to take the remaining steps that would lead us to our final destination.

The moment we find out what that mission is, don’t linger. Start working on it right away, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. Take John as a perfect example. John was not sent here to become a disciple. Instead, his mission involved leading people to follow the true Messiah; this is exactly what he did.

iPray: Often times we let ourselves get distracted, and we lose sight of the path You have set out for us. Teach us to stay true to the direction You are pointing out Lord, and fill us with Your grace that we may listen not to our own intentions and that of others’, but with a heart with Your will set in it.

The above scripture quote is from John 1:37, 40-41 from the New Living Translation.
