Can You Handle The Spirit?

What happened to that person I saw filled with The Spirit?  Why are they reacting to the Holy Ghost in this manner?

In life you have to come to grips with what you were made to do and for me I was made to show others how to get beyond normal to extraordinary.

Normal: A normal person believes that the Holy Spirit will take control of your body in a way you have no control.  It will make you speak words you didn’t intend to speak and do things you didn’t intend to do.

Let’s dig in a little more…

I began this writing with the story of a little boy who grew up in a small town and attended a number of small town churches.  Now as an adult and returning to his story, allow me to tell one of the memories he shared with me about the Holy Spirit (a.k.a The Holy Ghost).  This young boy saw something people called “the Holy Ghost” take possession of a person in an uncontrollable way. He mentioned seeing pews [the bench-like seats in a church] be ripped out of its floor supports by a woman who lost control of her body due to being in The Spirit.  He saw people fallout [that means passed out] under the power of this spirit. Is anyone out there familiar with stories or experiences like this?

What I find interesting is this.  Why is it this doesn’t happen to everyone who says they’re in the spirit?  Why is it this only occurs in a church service? Is God’s spirit only limited to church settings?  Before you answer, you may want to consult your bibles. And why does the spirit only move people in this way?  Is having His Spirit, the Spirit of the God of the universe, limited to only tearing up churches?

The Uncontrollable Spirit
In reading the Bible, I actually found an occurrence similar to the little boy’s experience.  This made me very happy. I make it a habit to look for the truth in any situation by looking for proof in God’s word.  If there’s a place that can explain the actions of God’s Spirit, then it should be God’s word. Right? Here’s what I found.

“And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid.”

When I read these words, I said to myself this sounds just like the memory the young boy experienced.  The problem is, what we thought was God’s spirit, really wasn’t. Maybe what you’ve been told about His Spirit just isn’t so.  I need to put this scripture in context for you to see the truth behind it.

“One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher [Jesus], I brought my son [the one who the spirit seized] so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit [demon] that won’t let him talk.” – bible.com/116/mrk.9.17.nlt

When I found this story that Jesus was involved in, it peaked my interest.  There’s a spirit out there that has the ability to seize a person, but it’s not His spirit.  “Normal” will have you come up with arguments to refute such ideas even though Jesus clearly teaches otherwise.  The reason for that is, it’s “normal”. My goal is to reach beyond “normal” and bring you to greater.

An uncontrollable spirit does exist, it’s just not the one “normal” people want you to think it is.  You better stay with me on this one, but you’ll have to wait until next week for me to finish. Holy is not what you think!
