What makes human beings, different than an animal?

You have probably seen people treat their pets better than the treatment some human-beings receive. Let me make this disclaimer, I have no pets and don’t totally understand the pet thing. However, I have several friends that consider their pets part of the family.

Have you ever heard the saying “animals are people too.” Is that really so?
Is there really a big difference between man-kind and animal-kind? This is a question I’ve long wanted to answer. So I turned to the book I love and trust, the Bible, to find out what it has to say about the subject.

Here’s the first scripture I came across about the creation of animals and it says…
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. ” (Genesis 1:24-27 KJV)

While there’s not much there to consider, there is when it comes to what happened to the next creature He created, mankind…
“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” (Genesis 2:7 NLT)

There is but one significant difference that humans possess that animals do not.
God created the two creations alike, but He breathed a portion of Himself into mankind. I would say that’s huge, God placed apart of Himself in human-beings. He, man or human beings, became something unlike any of the other beings He had created. God made the original man to be something special, something like nothing He had created before. In you, He placed the ability to be no-longer-common from the start.

Now, back to my animal loving friends, don’t let this message, which points out a significant difference between you and the animals you love, put a damper on your day or on you continued enjoyment of this blog site. The Bible concludes with evidence that their are animals and all sorts of creatures in Heaven. So it’s possible that your beloved pet might just be with you for eternity.

[note]Sidenote: Remember, the more you get to know me through my blog posts, you’ll realize that I take things to the nth degree at times; I go all the way to the left so my wife and friends say. So please don’t be offended, this blog site’s goal is to impact your mind in such a way that you leave it differently than before you stumbled across it. There really isn’t another way to become no-longer-common.[/note]

Here’s a question for you: What were your thoughts regarding the difference between people and animals? Share in the comments.
