Part 1 – God Directs Us Even During A Drought

“This is the account of Jacob and his family. When Joseph was seventeen years old, he often tended his father’s flocks. He worked for his half brothers…But Joseph reported to his father some of the bad things his brothers were doing.
One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever.
Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. “Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!” This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. “What kind of dream is that?” he asked. “Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?” But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant.”

You’ve more than likely heard this recount many times in your life; it’s about Joseph. He, as a little boy, dreamed that one day he’d be a ruler over his family. If you know the story, you also know his dream became a reality. Using his story, I’d like to point out that before their catastrophic event occurred, God already had it worked out. He had it all figured out for Joseph’s family and the entire land of Egypt before the event even occurred.

[Pray This]
Lord, let me brag on You a bit. I know most of the world is currently begging You and asking You to remove this plague, but I won’t do that today. Instead, I’m reminded that You knew this was going to occur before it occurred and You’ve already made a way for us before the way is revealed. So I build my faith and put my money on You. You are great in every way and I want You to know that from my own lips. Thank You for what You’ve already set in play, in Jesus’ name.

“Then the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had predicted. The famine also struck all the surrounding countries, but throughout Egypt there was plenty of food. Eventually, however, the famine spread throughout the land of Egypt as well. And when the people cried out to Pharaoh for food, he told them, “Go to Joseph, and do whatever he tells you.”
And people from all around came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph because the famine was severe throughout the world.”

As you know, Joseph eventually was placed in charge of all of Egypt. God had given him wisdom to prepare for a seven year famine that would impact Egypt and the surrounding lands. Because of the position he was in, many people survived this famine, this epidemic, this pandemic.

[Pray This]
Lord, I know You’ve already established what we need to survive the famine. You have people You’ve put in place before it actually occurred to be used for such a time as this. Thank You for providing what we need before we ever needed it. Amen!

“Since Joseph was governor of all Egypt and in charge of selling grain to all the people, it was to him that his brothers came…
And he remembered the dreams he’d had about them many years before.””
– bible.com/116/gen.42.6,9.nlt

Let’s just say it this way. Thank God He doesn’t always give us what we deserve. What Joseph’s brother did to him was horrific. Yet God used Joseph’s misfortune as a blessing to his family. I believe that during trying times that you (we) have been given family members (the least expected) to be a blessing to us during our famine, our pandemic.

(Say this next prayer with as much energy as you can muster.)

[Pray This]
Lord, I don’t make any assumptions during these times. You can use our past, our present, and our future in providing what we need. We don’t count out anyone we’ve ever come in contact with, even those we’ve done wrong. In fact, I take this moment to ask Your forgiveness for any ungodly treatment I’ve ever given to anyone in my life. You have a way of using those who we’ve considered to be useless as useful. Thank you for not allowing my actions to get in the way of Yours, in Jesus’ name.
