God Directs Us Even During A Drought

More Than What We Had – Part 1

Anytime a nation or in this case the world has a pandemic, problems soon emerge as you might have noticed or can imagine. In this prayer-workout, we’re addressing one such problem, shortages. There could be a shortage of food, water, supplies, unemployment, or people to assist. Let’s focus our attention on shortages. We have three stories to review starting with a drought to guide us. Let’s begin.

“Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, “As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives—the God I serve—there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!”” – bible.com/bible/116/1KI.17.1.NLT

History has it recorded that a prophet named Elijah instituted a drought. By the power of God, He commanded no dew or rain during the next few years until he said otherwise. Again, we see an action driven by God. We often see disasters as an event driven by the devil. That’s what normal people do; normal people see what’s Godly as Satanic and Satanic as godly. While I’m not saying that God orchestrates every disaster, I am saying He does use whatever’s available to use for our good, even if it’s a storm, drought, famine, snakes, or even an outbreak. Whatever it is He will use it for good.

[Pray This]
Lord, while normal thinking would have me believe this pandemic is of the devil, that matters not. What does matter is that I know You’re using it for our good. In fact, I’m using this prayer to add to my faith in trusting that You are working this out in our favor, in Jesus’ name.

“Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.” So Elijah did as the LORD told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.” – bible.com/bible/116/1KI.17.2-6.NLT

There’s no doubt Elijah received his instructions during this drought from God. God made sure that He instructed Elijah in which direction he should go so that God’s provision would be there for him. In the same way, we must learn how to take our cues from God.

[Pray This]
Father, during these uncertain times, it’s important that I hear from You. Open my ears, my mind, my eyes that I might not miss Your instructions on what I should be doing during this time. I don’t want to miss the provisions You have in place for me in Jesus’ name.
[Name as many of the provisions you can think of that you need at this time and present them to God.]

“Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.” So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?”” – bible.com/bible/116/1KI.17.8-10.NLT

Once Elijah’s brook dried up, God spoke to Elijah on the next move he should take, which led him to the famous story of his encounter with the widow in a village called Zarephath.

[Pray This]
Lord, help me to be like the prophet Elijah in that when I hear You direct me, I take the path You’ve laid out for me. It’s only by Your guidance that I am able to maneuver through this crisis, in Your name.

“So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days. There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the LORD had promised through Elijah.” – bible.com/bible/116/1KI.17.15-16.NLT

As this account goes, the widow was preparing to have her last meal with her son as there was no more food available to her in the land. Elijah interrupts her actions and imposes on her to provide him with the last meal. She does and as a result, her drought and shortage of food ended even though it remained in the rest of the land.

[Pray This]
Lord, there might not be enough food in the land, not enough jobs, or lack of provisions, but I trust You to provide for us just like you did for this widow and her son. Allow us to be brave and courageous to follow Your instructions that lead us away from the shortage or pandemic which plagues our land.
