When Life’s So Bad I Want to Curse God

Have you ever had such a setback that you couldn’t believe God would allow such a thing to happen? Have you ever blamed him for the adversities you’ve faced? It’s normal to look up to Heaven and give God a few choice words when we’ve been hit with life’s biggest blows that rock our world. 

[Pray This]
Lord, Why have you let this [name your circumstance] happen to me?
What have I done to deserve this punishment?
I know I’m not perfect, but surely I’m not the worst human on the planet.
Can you help me? Amen!

We prayed this first prayer in this exercise, not so that we can soften God up, but rather to soften our own hearts. It’s easy to take the normal path when we’re in trouble, or when life strikes at us in undesirable ways. The truth is life does happen and it can seem unfair.

“But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.”

“Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?”
As you can see, these are famous words from Job. Yet they are an uncommon response to what he was experiencing. You see everyone he knew told him to respond to his circumstances by cursing God, blaming God, getting angry with God. Yet He decided not to. He didn’t surrender to common responses or normal behavior. Instead he took whatever it was, the good as well as bad, that God allowed to cross his path.

Father, what I realize now is that cursing You won’t improve my situation.
In fact, it will probably make what I’m experiencing worse.
Instead of responding in normal, natural ways, I choose to have a different attitude.
I choose to accept what’s happened and look for the opportunities You’re providing to turn my dark days into a morning filled with joy, in Jesus’ name.

Your Action
(What action based on your prayer can you take?): 
I immediately stop listening to my friends and those who think they have all the answers, but truly do not. I look to God for my answer and the opportunity He’s placing before me.
