Positioning for a Miracle

Keys to Note When Praying for a Miracle

Praying for a Miracle – Part 3

In our previous message we defined what a miracle is. Using that definition, I have come to believe that all prayers offered and answered fall into the miracle class. A prayer is the request of a person who has a normal circumstance that he or she would like to have overwritten with an uncommon outcome. In other words, most prayers are miracle requests in this way. The reason we pray in the first place is because we have situations that we would like to see resolved in a way that is not normal. We would rather not live with the default or ordinary results that should come from such a situation. Notwithstanding, there are certain requests that are so big that we automatically place them in the miracle category.

Therefore, when we pray for miraculous and gigantic requests, there are a few things we must consider. Here are five that I find very important when we face prayers that we conclude a miracle is the only answer.

Five Keys When Praying for a Miracle

  1. Pray earnestly.
You have more than likely heard this quoted from the Bible. “The effective “fervent” prayer of a righteous man avails [produces or results in] much.” [1] That word “fervent” is one that brings up a question. What does that mean as it relates to prayer? It means to pray with intensity or with passion. When was the last time you prayed with intensity and passion?

Let me offer an example. It is said that Elijah prayed in such a way that no rain fell in the land for three and a half years. [2] His “fervent” prayer, prayed with passion and intensity, resulted in miraculous results. His mentee or student, Elisha prayed in such a way that a child who had died received life again. [3] The point is this: figure out how to pray with passion, intensity, and fervently, if you are interested in seeing miracles happen.

  2. Pray regardless of one’s stance.
A common deterrent to one praying is his or her stance. What I mean by that is this. If a person feels that they are not good enough, in good standings with God, or admit that they have done wrong, they will allow this to keep them from praying. Do not allow how you feel or how others make you feel to keep you from praying. In other words, pray regardless of your stance.

Moses’ sister found herself in the wrong. She had displeased God with her actions. As a result, God’s anger blazed out against her to such a degree that her skin turned white. Moses, even though his sister was in the wrong, prayed for God to heal her. He prayed for his sister, Miriam regardless of her stance. [4]

This is what we call stepping in the way of what God was doing. Have you ever done this? You see, she should have received severe punishment for her actions, but the miracle came because of Moses stepping in with prayer. The question I have for you then is this. What would have been the outcome if Moses had not prayed? If he had not stepped in? Then, that leads me to the question you must ask yourself. What have you allowed to happen because you never prayed, because you never stepped in the way, because you didn’t ask for the miracle? Pray regardless of your stance if you want to see a miracle.

  3. Don’t always expect quick results.
One of humanity’s flaws is to be impatient. We want it quick, fast, and in a hurry. It doesn’t always work like that. Have you ever considered why a miracle might require some time? There is a lot that must be considered and orchestrated to ensure your natural circumstance results in an uncommon outcome. This is how it was said to the nation of Israel who were eager to possess their new lands. God promised to drive out their enemies, not quickly, but little by little. Then He told them the reason why it must be that way. If He drove them out too quickly, this new land would have a wild animal control problem that would plague them. [5] While we are in a hurry to receive a miracle, have we considered that God is looking out for us in what that miracle would have under normal circumstances done to us?

Could it be that you are giving up on your miracle because you are expecting and looking for a quick turnaround? I bet you might be overlooking the “little by little” progress that is moving your circumstances closer to the full-blown miracle. Don’t always expect quick results. Your miracle might take some time.

  4. Be prepared for if He does not.
I think one of the worst positions for us to be in is mad with God about the circumstances we find ourselves in. Here it is, you find yourself praying to the only One who can change your circumstances but get mad because He won’t do it. [To the left] Why should He do it? Why should He perform a miracle for you? What have you done to deserve a miracle?
Now put that to the side. Let me tell you the appropriate attitude you should have if you desire a miracle.
Here are three names that most churchgoers are familiar with: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Here’s the words, the language, they used before King Nebuchadnezzar who threatened and attempted to take their lives by throwing them into a blazing inferno. “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t…” [6] Do you see those words, “But even if He doesn’t.” [6] Are you so pro-God that it doesn’t matter how He performs you won’t ever turn from being pro-God? Are you prepared for the worst-case scenario? Could it be that your miracle is on hold because you are not ready for the “even if He doesn’t”?

  5. Put your full weight on it.
My friend, Steven Winston, gave me this definition of faith that I really like. “Faith is putting the full weight of our needs in a trusted object.” The full weight. Not half the weight, but the full weight. I like to think of it this way. We know that a little faith has the ability to move a mountain. The sad truth is most people (51% or more, which is normal) believe that they have this little mustard seed size faith. [7] The truth is, if your mountain has not moved, then you my friend don’t even have the smallest amount of faith. You haven’t trusted God with the minimum amount of the weight for your needs.

There is a type of prayer that’s based on faith, called the prayer of faith. [8] Sidenote: I believe all prayer requires faith, at least faith in the One to whom you pray. At any rate, if faith is a requirement of the prayer of faith, could it be that you lack the faith required for the miracle you need? Offer your prayer in faith if you want to see a miracle happen.

I will be the first to admit, there are more to “miracles” than I thought. In order to take our prayer to the next level, this is good to know. Allow me to repeat something here. Our goal is and has always been to take you from where you are and help you move to the next level. If we are successful with this, that means:

  • your prayer has increased in intensity,
  • you will pray no matter if you think you are in good standings or not,
  • you will stop expecting the quick results and look for the incremental progress,
  • you will be prepared for and okay with God if He chooses not to, and
  • you will apply a new level of faith to your requests.

This is how we take praying for miracles to the next level. This is Next Level Prayer.

Question: which one of the five keys when praying for a miracle you could stand to improve upon?
