What if my prayer is for something that’s not a problem?

Praying the Right Prayer in the Eye of the Storm – Part 3

Part 2 – What if this storm we’re experiencing is His doing?

As you can see, asking God to remove the storm seems like the logical request. As you read the above passage, the storm came while Jesus was with them on the boat. I was reading a book called “Open” by David Gregory. The main character asked Jesus, “why didn’t He remove the storm?” His response in this book is something I’d like you to consider. “Why would I remove it? I sent it.” It’s recorded that everything that happened to Job happened because God allowed it.

Are we only believers when God removes the storms in our lives or are we believers even when He sends storms our way? This prayer-exercise is intended to change how you see the storm in your life so that spiritually you’re never the same.

[Pray This]
Lord, could it be possible that You sent this storm? It’s hard for me to think it, let alone let it come off my lips that You sent COVID19 in our midst. However, I must get past my hesitation because I know that You are God of the storm. In other words, You are God even when I think what happens to me is bad. Job understood it and I must learn it. Even when things aren’t going my way, they’re going the way that You’ve directed them.

“You rule over the surging sea.” – bible.com/bible/37/PSA.89.9.CEB
In Your great name.

“Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and good things come?” – bible.com/111/lam.3.37-38.niv

I know it might be a little strange, uncommon to think this way, but until you’re ready to leave normal thinking behind, you’re not really ready to pray anyway. This action isn’t normal. So if you decide to pray, don’t slip back into normal while you’re in the middle of it. This exercise requires you to leave “normal” behind.

[Let’s Try This Prayer]
(Are you ready? Take a deep breath.)
Lord God,
This is Your storm. It’s under Your command and it can only go where You deem or want it. With that said, I know You have a purpose for what it touches and what it does. May it accomplish exactly what You intend for it to accomplish. May it bring reverence for You. May it bring Your people back to You so that “We may again be Your people and You our God.” In Jesus’ name.
