What Matters Most?

Making Room for What Matters Most

“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”‭‭ [1]

I rarely consider this until now, but we must make room for Jesus. Imagine that! Even from His birth there seemed to be no place for Him. He was born in a stable because there was no room in the Inn. Don’t be like the Inn, make room, move things around, and open your schedule for the King of kings.

Make room for what matters most.
Ordinary people have made room for everything else. They have room for the weekend at the beach. They make room for recreation outside of the office. They make room for more than 40 hours a week in the office, at work. They make room for football and their favorite sports. They make rooms for their kids, spouse, family members and friends. They, normal people, make room for what matters most to them.

The one thing normal people can’t find time to make room for is Jesus. That’s what uncommon people do. Make this what matters most. You have to make sure there’s a place for reading your Bible. Make reading your Bible what matters most. The next-level believer doesn’t miss a single day meeting with the commander & chief of the universe; they pray. Make praying what matters most. Not being faithful to attend church isn’t an option for the uncommon. They make this what matters most. That’s what it means to be uncommon, doing what regular people don’t. The uncommon make room for Jesus first and then the rest. Make Jesus what matters most.

In the greatest story ever told, there was no room for Him in the inn. Mary and Joseph had to settle for a stable. In life, it often appears that the best places, best talent, best ideas, best of everything is reserved for everything but Christ. There’s no room for Jesus in these areas. There is no room in the inn. What’s amazing is this. Greatness came out of a stable. Greatness will come out of the place that has a vacancy for Him. What greatness is waiting to emerge from within your stable? Your heart? Your life? Make room for Him this Christmas.

Question: Will you be like “the inn” which represents the world, what’s normal, natural, common? Have you made room for our Lord this Christmas?

Christmas Prayer: Father in Heaven, today, forgive me when I don’t make room for You. I will not be too consumed with everything else that I don’t have a place for You in my life, in Jesus’ name.
