Praying Psalm 91 in this Pandemic

No Plague Comes Near My Dwelling

I have to tell you this, but I saved this one for last. It’s a confession that most church-goers know, but I want to use it as an outline to this final workout in prayer. Now that you’ve gone through the complete exercise, you’re ready to end on a high note.

You made it to the final workout. I know it’s been aggressive, but when your life’s in jeopardy, if it takes being aggressive then that’s just what we have to do. Let’s finish this off with a bang.

He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you.” – – bible.com/bible/116/EXO.15.26.NLT

You have to hear this. It’s an if-statement which means we have a part to play so that God will (in this case) do His part. Focus on these things (doing what’s right, obeying His commands, and keeping His decrees) and no one can keep you from remaining free from suffering the diseases and circumstances that plague our lands.

[Pray This]
Lord, help me with doing what’s right. Help me with obeying your command and keeping your decrees. I know then You will act on my behalf and make certain I don’t fall victim to the diseases that’s attacking our lands in Jesus’ name.

This final exercise focuses on Psalm 91. Don’t look at it with familiar eyes, but rather see it in a new way for the first time. Let’s make these final statements, prayer declarations. We’re going to make these statements in prayer.

[Make These Declarations in Prayer.]

  • I live in an uncommon place. I’ve made my home a place for God’s presence to dwell. Therefore, I’m able to rest at a time like this.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.1.NLT

  • Lord, You are my place of security and safety. During these tough times; I choose to trust You.

This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.2.NLT

  • Although we can’t see the diseases and may come in contact with it, You protect me and rescue me.

For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.3.NLT

  • Lord, for just a moment I take my attention off of the problems and see what You’ve given me. You’ve provided me a shelter, a home under Your wings. In Your presence I’ve found that Your armor is what’s protecting me.

He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.4.NLT

  • I will not be afraid of what’s coming out of the darkness that I can’t see and neither will I be afraid of the stuff I can see in the light of day.

Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.5.NLT

The news is reporting how bad the disease is spreading and reports are coming from every direction. Thousands upon thousands are falling in its wake and it’s leaving its devastating aftermath, but I say this evil (that’s what it is) will not consume or touch me.

Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.6-7.NLT

  • I see what’s happening all around, but I’m smart enough to make You [Lord] my place of safety, my home.

Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.8-9.NLT

  • No evil will overtake me. No virus or disease can have my home.

no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.10.NLT

I know doubt can sometimes creep in. So I stay strong. Even if this plague knocks on my door, I keep saying that God is in this place and no evil, nor any disease is strong enough to overtake God in whom our home is protected.

  • [This is getting good.] Lord, You have angles on guard around me. Even in the event I stumble and fall, even if I make a mistake, they are there to pick me up and make sure I overcome what’s out to harm me, in Jesus name! [If you feel like screaming, this is the place, do it now.]

For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.11-13.NLT

  • Lord, You’ve said You rescue those You love. You protect those who trust in You. I know You love me and I trust in You. Therefore I must be rescued and protected.

The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.14.NLT

  • I’m so thankful to know that when I call for You, You answer. You’ve not abandoned us when trouble comes. Instead You’ve rescued us.

When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.15.NLT

  • Because of the decision I’ve made to stay with You Lord, You have rewarded me with more life because You are my saviour in Jesus’ name.

I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”
    – bible.com/bible/116/PSA.91.16.NLT

You’ve completed the final installment of this aggressive and extreme prayer-exercise, don’t allow this to be the end of your prayer-exercise habits. Pick up a new exercise, but until then let’s pray a final cool-down prayer.

[Pray This]
Lord God, I’ve made it through this final prayer-exercise on “What Do I Pray For This Pandemic?”. I know that my voice has made its way to Your throne. Let my words be acceptable, my prayers acceptable and my petitions acceptable. You are my Lord, my strength, and the One who redeems me from destruction in Jesus’ name.
Amen Amen Amen!
