Why the phrase “no-longer-common”?

There are several quotes in scripture that refer to teaching people the difference between common and holy.

“… teach my people the difference between what is holy and what is common…” Ezekiel 44:23 (NLT)

“You are to distinguish between the holy and the common.” Leviticus 10:10 (ESV)

Being afraid or hesitant to use the word “holy”, moved us to research its meaning. Holy means to set apart, make special, not like anything else, not common. All of these phrases can be used in place of the word “holy”.

It’s our purpose in life to find these differences because being common we never really consider anything else. Being common causes us to ignore the fact that there is another way or another method. Truthfully, common isn’t working, so we are trying to find the answer to what is working. It’s our mission to expose the difference between what’s common and what’s holy – something other than common. As we discover these differences, starting with the most common areas (home, work, church, recreation, etc.) of our existence, we gradually become no-longer-common.
