Matthew 14:25, 28-32 Sometimes you must jump out of the sinking boat

There are times in our lives where things can get really bad and seem hopeless. In those tough times, we find ourselves searching for help in any place we possibly can. The unfortunate reality is that we don’t turn to Jesus until we are in the worse part of our circumstances. It’s only then that we cry out to Him to help us out of our situation.

Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea…
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the
boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid;
and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him,
and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.[/pullquote]

As soon as we begin our journey of faith, our courage is sometimes weakened by the environment. In the distress of our circumstances, we begin to listen to what God has to say to help us resolve our devastating life issues.

Maybe it’s our friends or coworkers that tell us we won’t be okay.
Or they tell us how it didn’t work out for them.
Or how what we are doing doesn’t seem like the right actions.
Or they tells us that our actions are going to make things worse.

No matter what the response, it’s looking at the circumstances and listening to others that weakens our faith. It’s the very moment we see hope, breakthrough and even a miracle that we begin to”sink” and fear that our answer won’t work.

Fortunately, for those of us who choose to live a life that’s partnered with Christ, He is always there to rescue us, pick us up and bring us to safety. We may not have enough faith to continue to walk on the stormy sea; but we don’t have to. He will take you by the hand, pull you in the boat, and get rid of the storm altogether.

No-longer-common means you are willing to jump out of the boat, be willing to sink, and willing to allow Jesus to rescue you if necessary. No matter what, be willing to jump out of the boat – jump in to what you believe.
