You are What You Do
Do you believe it when they say “you are what you eat” or “you are what you read”, and so on? These expressions are a way of saying that who we are and what happens to us is a product of our choices. So why do we blame God when bad things happen to us?
“And when your people ask, ‘Why did the Lord our God do all this to us?’ You must reply, ‘You rejected Him and gave yourselves to foreign gods in your own land.’ – Prophet Jeremiah
It is so easy to blame people, circumstances, and other things when something bad happens. Somehow, part of our reflex is to start pointing fingers when things go wrong. Sadly, in a lot of things, we also end up blaming God when things get out of hand.
The question here is, how much have you truly surrendered to God, and how much in your life do you still control?
When you get into an accident while you’re driving with your phone on your ear, who do you blame? Do you blame the other driver because he’s not looking? Do you blame the pedestrian who suddenly crossed the street? Don’t you think that you could have avoided the situation had you pulled over to answer your phone?
When you fail an exam given after the night you partied hard, who do you blame? Do you blame your teacher because the questions she asked were too hard? Do you blame your classmate for not letting you cheat? Don’t you think you could have passed the exam if you had stayed in on a school night and reviewed the topics discussed the day before?
So when you fall hard in life because you chose to do things your own way, don’t you think things would turn out differently if you had let God take the wheel; let Him steer you towards making better decisions and going towards the right direction?
iPray: Lord, we often blame You when we fail, and for this, we are truly sorry. Often, we throw Your words out of the window and start listening to our own voice, making us miss the signs and the paths that You have set up for us. Thank You for your unending grace, for showing us the way despite our stubbornness, and for forgiving us when we choose to go back to the path that leads to Your glory.
The above scripture quote is from Jeremiah 5:19 from the New Living Translation.
