United We Stand
Have you ever felt the urge to turn away from the church because of the evident disconnect in a lot of aspects? A lot of people have stopped going to church or being active in their communities because of this fact. After all, if the church itself is divided, how will it embody the things that it teaches?
“I appeal to you my brothers and sisters [those chosen to be no-longer-common], by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other [unlike ordinary people]. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.” – Apostle Paul
In any community, both big and small, there will always be things that people will not agree on. These disagreements may be between the church leaders and the churchgoers, or even among the church leaders themselves. This is normal. You know why? At the end of the day, we are all still human and sometimes we see things through our own perspective.
This is not something we should be ashamed of, nor should it be something that would deter us from our faith. Whether you or the people around you are the cause of the division, there is always a need to assess the situation and go where you feel your faith will benefit the most. It’s all about choice.
Is there something that your local church teaches that you do not totally agree with? If so, remember that you can choose to see things through their perspective and adapt to that way of thinking wholeheartedly, or you can find the church that would have the same purpose, passion, mindset, and ideas that you have.
iPray: Thank you Lord for the gift of wisdom. Through this, You have allowed me to choose where I will be able to uphold Your true purpose for me, and help bring people together through Your name. I pray for churches everywhere that they may be reminded of the true purpose of this journey; that at the end of each day, we are all doing this for Your glory, and that’s the one thing that truly matters.
The above scripture quote is from 1 Corinthians 1:10 of the New Living Translation.
