Your Prayers Are Like Seeds Planted Into A Field
The Beginnings of Prayer 101 – Part 2
Prayer 101 – Part 5.2
This is fundamental number two of beginning your journey towards next-level-prayer.
Your prayers are like seeds planted into a field.
You see, for next level pray-ers (people who pray), one must believe that prayer is using one’s words and those words will produce a return.
Human beings are unlike any other of God’s creations. If you read the script for life, you’ll find this out in the very first pages. There is something different about human-beings.
“Then God said…
Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.” [1]
You have been given the ability to be like God. You can speak and things get created. In other words, your words, your prayers have the same creative force that God used to create everything. Allow me to say that again, your prayers which are your words, create everything that you see, have seen, and will ever see.
God created in words and so can you.
In reviewing how God created everything that we know that is, He used His words to do it. Therefore being made in His image we must learn to do the same.
“Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Then God said, “Let there be a space between the waters…
Then God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flow…And that is what happened.
Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation…then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came. And that is what happened.
Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night…
Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.
Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind…And that is what happened.
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us…” [1]
Let me say this because I feel like it right now. It’s time for you to start creating worlds. This is next level prayer. Next level pray-ers (people who pray) use prayer to recreate the world in which they have been living. There is no need to pray if you don’t have plans on creating what’s to exist or recreating what exists. Now let’s talk about how it works from a different angle.
You must become a spiritual farmer.
Jesus said it this way, “the kingdom of God operates like a farmer who plants seeds.” [4] What have you been planting? What type of seeds was He referring to? Obviously, He is talking about the kingdom of God, to make it plain. He’s describing how God does what He does which the Bible gives us example after example how that’s done. The most obvious is with our words. We use our words as seeds.
A pray-er is nothing more than a spiritual farmer, who sows into the unseen where a farmer sows into the seen. We need to understand the difference between the seen (common) versus unseen (uncommon). [2] The seen represents what we can do on our own. If we could do it, it would already be resolved. However the unseen is what we pray for, the things we can’t handle, accomplish, or grant on our own. For a pray-er, it’s the areas and activities that we could use God’s support and help. We need some help that goes beyond human resolve.
The farming example shows us how next level prayer works. This is how prayer works. It only takes a little and produces a huge amount of results. Even when you plant a small amount the results are huge, lasting, and continuous. But what if you planted more than just a mustard seed of this stuff (prayer)? I will share an illustration that Jesus used in order to add a little more clarity. The Bible actually says it better than I ever can.
“Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven [how people influenced by Heaven operate] is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.”” [3]
The writer of Mark shares the example this way. “Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground…”” [4]
Prayer is like scattering seeds.
Now for what happens when you begin this next level prayer practice of planting your prayers like seeds in a field.
- You must scatter a lot of prayers.
You will want to pray about many things. The Bible says that we should pray about all things, nothing excluded. If you scatter only a few, you can only expect a few results. When you scatter a lot, you expect a large harvest, many results. - Without you knowing it, the prayers you plant like seeds will begin to show signs of results, they will sprout. [5]
While you might be trying to understand the process, there’s no need. It just works. When you plant seeds there is no logical explanation as to why your seeds begin to grow. They just grow. In the same way, when you plant your prayers like seeds, there is no logical explanation to give you, other than they will just grow. - The earth is designed to cause seeds to grow, just like the kingdom of God is designed to make your words, your prayers grow.
Just like a plant that goes from sprouting, to a leaf blade, to a head of wheat, to finally grain to harvest [5] so goes your prayers. Prayer goes from a thought in your mind, to words off your lips, to seeds in God’s field, to results in your world.
If I were you, I’d learn how to farm. It would seem to me to be a good idea to develop spiritual crops that I’d like to harvest. What type of results would you like to see? Then you need to begin thinking the thoughts, speaking the words in prayer, allowing your seeds to begin growing in the unseen, and see the results manifest in the seen.
Question: how are your prayer crops looking this season?
