Preparing to Pray Like One Prepares for Battle

Have you ever considered the consequences when God speaks to you? What I mean by that is this. Let’s say you “pray.” Most likely you don’t expect to receive a response because that’s not normal. Well that’s not the kind of praying we’ve believed is possible. This prayer is one where we expect to hear God speak in whatever way He can speak to you. With that said what happens when He does? Well, like the examples in the Bible, He’s going to give you a task to perform which at first seems larger than what you can accomplish. When you do, your next step is to create a plan, a battle plan for your next steps.

Prayer Condition:
I find myself at a loss when I’ve heard God speak because what He’s asked I’ve never done before. So I don’t want to fail Him or do nothing with it all.

The Prayer:
“After dark I [Nehemiah] went out through the Valley Gate, past the Jackal’s Well, and over to the Dung Gate to inspect the broken walls and burned gates.” – bible.com/bible/116/NEH.2.13.NLT

[Pray This]
Father,
Just like Nehemiah, I don’t know what to do with what You’ve placed before me. So like Nehemiah, I can assess the situation and get a clear picture of what can be done. Rather than get overwhelmed by Your request, I begin to strategize and make the best plan I can to accomplish this mission You’ve given me. With Your help, I create a battle plan for my thirty-thousand-foot prayer in Jesus’ name.

Your Action:
(What action based on your prayer can you take?)

In order to walk this out practically. I take a step back to see the problem for what it is, then I focus only on the one next step I can take and I leave the things beyond up to God. In fact, after I do just that one step, I wait for Him to give me the next.
