Loneliness: Most Common Emotional Pain
A Season of Loneliness – Part 1
Loneliness: Most Common Emotional Pain
During the holiday season, one of the most “common” emotional pains experienced is loneliness. This time of year can be a constant reminder of past failure, let downs, betrayals, and losses. For normal people, they remember the lost relationships. They’re reminded of the family hurts. They remember the family members who are no longer with them. Can I tell you that this is normal? And the only problem you have is that you’re not “normal.”
The truth is salvation is available to end every pain. Salvation is available to rescue you from even loneliness.
God didn’t intend for you to be lonely. In fact, He said to Adam it’s not good for you to be alone. He wants you to have a life that’s full-filled. Not empty-filled.
Common: I believe my life can be better without any people. Saying I’m okay by myself is a trick to keep you average, ordinary and mediocre.
No-longer-common: God’s answer (that’s if you believe God over any man) is that I shouldn’t be alone is better.
You see being “normal” or “common” means you’ll substitute real relationships with other things.
Normal replaces having real meaningful relationships with possessions. Normal chases careers. Turns to substance abuse or alcoholism. Normal seeks relationships with material possessions. The more a “normal” person turns to something other than real relationships, they turn towards a life of loneliness and trouble.
There’s a story about a man who had no family. He spent his life working very hard to earn wealth and prestige. He worked until he became an older man. At the end, he reflected and asked the question, why have I deprived myself of enjoyment?
This man realized that he worked for something that couldn’t be achieved through work or wealth. He realized that the thing that was missing was family. It was people to spend time with. It’s the people for whom he was gaining the wealth for that was missing.
Loneliness is gained by removing people from your life. And the cure to loneliness is to bring people into your life.
