Command Inanimate Objects Like Jesus
Calm the Storm – Part 3
Before you begin make sure you’ve completed the previous prayer-workout, click this link:
“Part 2 – Wake Him Up!”
Remember I said we need to go through the history of Jesus calming the storm three times. We have one more to go. This is the last one so pray it as if your life depends on it. This is the exercise of prayer. So put your back into this.
Little prayer, little power; much prayer, much power!
One day Jesus said to his disciples,
“Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out.
As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap.
But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger.
The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves.
Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm.
Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”
The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “
When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!”

“One day.”
There’s nothing special about this day. In other words out of nowhere… on a regular nothing happening, ordinary day.
“The boat was filling with water…”
There was something unusual about it to cause these seamen to take note that their boat was filling. What it says is that it was filling and not releasing the water that was coming in. They were in danger of sinking.
Do you see the problem? It’s in your boat. The pandemic is in your boat. The sickness has made its way to your boat. The war is in your boat. The disaster happened to your boat. The broken marriage is in your boat. It’s your boat and your boat now is bringing you into danger.
[Pray This]
Lord, this disaster has hit my boat. What’s happening around me is now impacting my boat. This storm, this pandemic, this disease, this disaster is impacting my boat. I want You to know that I feel like I’m in danger.
“Suddenly the storm stopped…”
The storm stopped unexpectedly.
Can you imagine your marital problems stopping unexpectedly?
Can you imagine your battle stopping unexpectedly?
Can you imagine the drinking and abuse stopping unexpectedly?
What does it take to get it to stop unexpectedly? Well, it’s not just going to stop on its own. It’s not going to stop just because you want it to. It’s not just going to stop because you’re in danger. It might not stop just because you have Jesus in the boat, in your home, or in your life.
As you know He [Jesus] stopped the storm. Using His words, the storm stopped in the same manner that it came. Suddenly. In this prayer exercise we’re going to end it with a lesson on how to give commands to the wind and waves. The environment.
[Pray This (really quick)]
Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us that we can speak to the inanimate objects, environments, plants, planets, the sun, the moon, the molecules, the tumors, the ruins. We can give commands to anything that’s impacting our “boat.” In Jesus’ name.
Now, we’re about to really pray and this prayer is focused on us commanding inanimate objects. I know this sounds strange and uncommon, but when has prayer not been that way?
Yes, you might have to speak to your marriage…
Maybe, you’ll have to talk to your child’s situation from afar…
You might possibly have to yell at the attack on your family…
You could possibly have to shout to the attack on your church…
You might even have to speak to the stroke, the heart attack, the respirator, or even the body of a loved-one.
These are called storms and we can speak to them.
The question is are you ready?!
(Take a deep breath if you need to, because this is serious.)
Remember this is serious, your boat is filling with water, Your family is in danger. The least we can do is some talking to the environment if it means their safety. LET’S JUST DO!
[Pray This]
Lord Jesus,
first off, this is a little uncomfortable for me. If I’d seen others do this, I’d think they were pretty silly. I might even say they’re being too extreme. I have to admit extreme is what I need. So I’m joining the extreme club. Here I go.
Storm that’s impacting my life [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.”
(Ohhh… I know you feel that…)
Storm that’s impacting my work [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
Storm that’s impacting my school [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
Storm that’s impacting my relationship [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
Storm that’s impacting my children [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
(take a breath and let’s get back into it.)
Storm that’s impacting my parents [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
Storm that’s impacting my income [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
Storm that’s impacting my mind [name your storm], I say to you “let there be peace, be still.” No more… [name your storm].
I say like Jesus said
(say this at the top of your lungs.)
“LET THERE BE PEACE, BE STILL.”
In Jesus’s name.
