Are You Fighting the Wrong Opponent
Know that you are in a fight
Have you ever considered that day after day, you’re in a fight for something?
On your job, you might be fighting for your next promotion.
At home, you might be fighting to keep up with your neighbors or something simple like paying your bills on time.
Within your community, you might be fighting for the values you hold near and dear.
You might be fighting to finally have a vacation free of work interruptions.
In your relationships, you could be fighting to hold on to your love-one.
In school, you might be fighting to keep your grades from slipping.
Whatever, you’re doing, there is a fight going on and until you understand it, you might fall prey to losing the fight.
Who are you fighting
It’s hard to win a fight when you don’t know you’re in one and even harder when you don’t know who you are battling. If there’s a threat to your way of life, you tend to think that the immediate threat is right in front of you.
Like your spouse.
Your church.
Your children.
Your job or boss. etc.
I’ve identified that being “common” makes you blind to your real enemy and you are sure to lose.
Ordinary people lose in life, this fight-this battle, simply because they are fighting the wrong person. In every fight, you have: (1) an opponent, (2) your allies, (3) your opponent’s allies and (4) the bystanders.
Normal people fight against 3 of the 4 mentioned above. Which you like to guess which 3?
They fight against their “allies” -the people who are fighting with them.
They fight against their “opponent’s allies”-any person who doesn’t appear to be on their side regardless if they aren’t even in the fight at all.
They fight the “bystanders”-those who seem to be undecided and look to be a future potential threat.
Notice I left off their “opponent”-the true threat.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 NLT)
Focus on the real threat
I remember a coworker of mine once said to me, we are not against the people our fight is with the devil. Our battle is like the battle we have with interest rates on a loan. We can’t easily see it, but it constantly and continually fights against us; taking our money. The people who we see are not, never have been and never will be our true threat. That means they were, are not, and never will be our enemy. People aren’t our enemy, the devil is our true enemy.
The reason “uncommon” people win in life is because they fight for people and not against them. If you want to be unlike anyone else, stop fighting the wrong opponent, turn the attention to your true opponent, so that you can rescue the people who fall prey to being “common”.
