1 Timothy 6:10 common is having a love affair with money instead of God

To make money has become a basic need for most people. It’s more essential than food, clothing, and shelter because the money we make can provide all of those things. Think of it this way, we all need to pay our bills, keep the lights on, have food to eat and so forth. So it’s only natural that we have a desire to make more and more money. If asked, most of us would say we need more money. We certainly wouldn’t turn more down; that is what’s called “the love of it.”

It’s a subtle yet justified love affair with something that we’re convinced we need and can’t survive without.

[pullquote align=”left”](1 Timothy 6:10 NLT) For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.[/pullquote]

When money has a way of controlling you and not you your money, this love affair will cause you to continually crave more and more of what it appears to do for you. If you think about it, each year that you made more money than the previous year, nothing about your life really changed. In fact, like most, you probably await receiving more money in your hands, i.e. tax returns and raises.

This love affair only causes common people like you and me to be further removed from faith and believe there is nothing we can do without it. That’s what God is for, we should depend on Him in this way not our money.
