Spirit-Filled Re-Defined

In Plain Sight, But Not Seen – Part 4

How would you define a powerful version of yourself?  What does it mean to have power or a special power? Power for what?

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” – bible.com/116/act.1.8.nlt

I know it can feel a little icky mentioning “The Holy Spirit”.  What’s funny is no one has a problem mentioning God or even Jesus as much as we shy away from using the words “The Holy Spirit.”  However, I’ve found a way to make it a little easier to swallow. We will say “the Spirit of God” and it’s found throughout the Bible as you’ll see in just a moment.

It’s time for you to receive power to become more than a normal human-being.
I don’t know what kind of power you have but you have one. You might not be able to leap tall buildings or out run a speeding car, but you can have your own special power. What God’s Spirit has available to you is limitless. His giftings available to and for you has no limits.

The Uncommon Example of God’s Spiritual Giftings
Have you ever thought about those the Bible said were filled with His Spirit?  I would say probably not because those the Bible say don’t match our “common” idea of what it means to be “spirit-filled”.  Here are just a few examples:

    • Moses’ amazing results.  Here’s a direct quote of what the King of Egypt had to say about Moses, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?”. If someone who is so anti-God could see God’s spirit on a person, what does that say for you and I.  Moses wasn’t speaking in tongues, but rather had results that even amazed the King of Egypt; that my friend is what we call “Spirit-filled”.
    • Bezalel’s extraordinary skills.  You might not know Bezalel unless you’ve been into the Bible for a while, but his gift is one we all can relate.  Bezalel was an expert in his craft because he was “Spirit-filled”; he.  In other words, he became the best in his vocation, field of study, his work because of “God’s Spirit.”  That my friend is what we call “Spirit-filled”.
  • Jesus’ extreme popularity.  It’s not a familiar or common statement to say that Jesus was “Spirit-filled”.  We recall that the Spirit descended upon Him, but being filled with the Holy Ghost is rarely mentioned.  Because He was filled with the Holy Spirit’s power His popularity spread quickly throughout the region.  The power Jesus has was so different that his popularity spread throughout the whole land with unprecedented speed.  That my friend is what we call “Spirit-filled”.

What I know is that we all have a desire to be empowered, to have a say over something.  God’s spirit on you can give you that? But how? When you finally accept this conclusion, you’ve been made unique, have a unique quality, and characteristics, you will then begin to use these gifts in ways that only you can.  The “Holy Spirit” comes in and gives you the edge that you need to be superior being you. No one else is like you. Take a look at today’s NFL quarterbacks. No two are the same, yet each are dominating being themselves. They have unique talents, but those talents aren’t replicated in the next great quarterback, even those next to them.  The same is true for you, but what is that talent you have that gives you the edge. Use it to make yourself and life for others great!
