SME: The Spirit Matter Expert

The Holy Ghost Will… Part 3

Have you ever wondered why or how some people are so gifted and talented?  Maybe you wonder why you’re not as talented.

I used to be one of those type thinkers.  Why am I not a talented basketball player or a musician?  What talent do I have that can compare to some of the great ones I see around me?  I even asked the questions why am I not a talented minister of the gospel or some megachurch pastor?  Why can’t I preach with best of them? Then it hit me or He hit me. He has given everyone their own talents.  And just like those I used to envy, He has given me a talent to be envied. The same goes for you. I’m thinking about taking you to the extreme in this post.  Sometimes we need to be shaken so that we can come to our senses.

I Need The Bible For This
If God made you, and He did, that only means He made something special, something great.  If you feel as though you’re nothing special and nothing great, then you’ve allowed something other than God to give you such thoughts about yourself.  Today, I want to remind you that you can listen to everyone (the world around you) or you can choose to hear God’s voice saying that you [insert your name] are a masterpiece.  You’re one-of-a-kind, you’re special, unlike anything the world has ever seen. Or you can choose to listen to the voices that don’t really matter and believe you’re not much of anything.  You choose!

To add to this thought, I need The Bible.  I want to introduce you to a character I’m sure you’re not familiar with.  My sister would say, where do you find this stuff? Trust me it’s in your Bible just like it’s in mine.  Have you ever heard of Bezalel? Let me share a little of his story.

“The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.” – bible.com/116/exo.35.31.nlt

Bezalel was filled with “the Spirit of God” [The Holy Spirit] and as a result, look what happened.  Bezalel became unlike the rest; he became different, unique, set apart, made special. As a result of The Holy Spirit, he was given great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.  In other words, he was extremely gifted and talented. Not exactly what normal people want you to hear or beleive about being filled with The Spirit, right?

“He [Bezalel] is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze.” – bible.com/116/exo.35.32.nlt

Bezalel was now so good at his job, he was labeled as a master craftsman, an expert in his trade and field.

“He [Bezalel] is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft.” – bible.com/116/exo.35.33.nlt

Bezalel became gifted in every craft.  This wasn’t his story until he was filled with God’s spirit.  Now let me say this while I’m here. If this is an example of what being filled with God’s spirit does to a mere “ordinary” human, what does being filled with God’s spirit do for you?   I think we have some frauds out there saying they’re spirit-filled but have no uncommon results to back it up. What do you think?

“And the Lord has given both him [Bezalel] and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach their skills to others. The Lord has given them special skills as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet thread on fine linen cloth, and weavers. They excel as craftsmen and as designers.” – bible.com/116/exo.35.34-35.nlt

Not only did Bezalel have these extraordinary gifts and talents, he was able to share these gifts with others causing others to excel in their crafts.  This means Bezalel was a SME (subject matter expert). This is what “The Holy Spirit” does to a person; He makes an expert out of them. What has God’s spirit made you an expert in?

What Has His Spirit Done For You?
Back to my original thought about my talent.  Pamela and I (my brother as well) are often amazed when we go back and read the web-posts and articles we’ve written.  Honestly when I read them, my thoughts are someone else must have written this stuff, there’s no way I could have created such content.  That’s a gift. Writing? I never would have dreamed of being a writer. Who wants to spend hours each week writing? The person who has been given a spirit to write.  I enjoy the hours I spend in Starbucks and Barnes & Nobles creating new (spirit-inspired) content.

This is what The Lord does for you,  a common person, when you have Him in your life.  He will make you an expert in your trade, career, or profession.  He will cause you to excel and be the best at the work that you do.  He will give you the ability to teach and train others in your craft, thusly preserving and securing your legacy.  God wants to make you a “spirit” matter expert (SME). May the Spirit be with you. Holy is not what you think!
