How Happiness Can Be Yours Every Single Day

Impacting More Than Just Yourself

Part 8 – How Happiness Can Be Yours Every Single Day

I entered the building for my first day on the job with such excitement.
So I got there early; it’s my first day.
This is the job I wanted and needed.
They hired me to this position and I have a huge responsibility.
I wanted to do my best.

These are just some of the thoughts I was having in route to my office.  What happened next has stayed with me all these years.  At the end of the hallway, just before my suite of offices, there’s a room with a shared copier.   To the lady making her morning copies, I said good morning; how are you?  Her response was… I’ll be glad when it’s Friday.   It’s just Monday and it’s before 8:00 a.m.  “I’ll be glad when it’s Friday?”  What do you do or say to that?  This is what “common” people do!  Wish it was Friday on Monday.  They want to skip Tuesday through Thursday, just to get back to Friday.

From that experience, Pamela and I decided to not fall into this trap.  We decided to enjoy every day as if each day was Friday.  You see, normal people look forward to times ahead of them.  The reason being is that they can’t find joy in the here and now.  They get anxious about the weekend, their upcoming vacation or some distant holiday.  To be exceptional, you learn how to make every day great.  It’ll change your life, your home, your marriage and even your job if you can master the same.

Let me unpack it just a little bit.  There’s nothing wrong with looking forward to the weekend, that’s “normal”.  What I’ve learned about “normal” people is that they live for happiness, a single event that makes them happy.  What they don’t know is happiness really doesn’t come from the event itself, it comes from God.  What they are experiencing in a single event is touching God, being in His presence for just that moment. That’s a God-thing. It’s called joy when you stay connected to Him.  It’s the only place you can find happiness.  At this point no matter if the event is good or bad, you can remain happy.  This is what it means to be in joy-God’s presence.

‘Normal’ people leave His presence and return to being “normal”, again-no happiness.  No one or no thing on earth has the power to make one happy.  Thinking that a person is responsible for making you happy…that’s normal.

It can be yours every single day.
You see uncommon human-beings experience Friday on any day of the week.   They’ve found a secret to having an abundance of happiness-it’s called joy.  An extraordinary human who finds joy measures life down to the seconds.  They live with their focus in the next moment and the assurance that there is more of that out there.   They have so much going on in a day that they’re excited about something every waking hour.   You want some of that?  Stop trying to get it from a person, thing or what money can provide.  Seek to be uncommon.

Once you know this type of lifestyle exists, you’ll plan for it.  You’ll be intentional about your time and make it your practice to find enjoyment in everything.  You see it’s hard to be different, when normal has you trapped.

What is it you can find in your next hour, moment, that can bring you to a place of enjoyment?  Leave us a comment.
